HIP (Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York)
New York, New York is home to HIP, short for the Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York (HIP), a non profit HMO started in the 1940s to offer affordable health care to New York City. HIP has grown to provide health care coverage to over 1 million policy holders which makes it the largest HMO in the New York metro area as well as New York state's biggest Medicare provider. They also offer medical, lab, and pharmacy services through 20,000 doctors and 100 health care facilities across New York City. 10,000 employers from small businesses to FORTUNE 500 companies trust HIP.
HIP Health Plan of New York has:
- Contracts with over 160 hospitals, including major acute care institutions
- Contracts with 39,000 physicians and providers in over 57,000 locations in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts
Two of HIP's subsidiaries have added to their substantial network. These are ConnectiCare, one of the largest health plans in Connecticut, acquired in 2005, and Vytra Health Plans acquired in 2001.
